History

Brief History

In 1908, Mrs. Eddy added the Bylaw for the Christian Science nurse to our Church Manual. Mind’s infinite wisdom was certainly guiding our Leader, for since then, Christian Science nurses have been at the forefront of the battle of spiritual versus material sense testimony. It has been our joy to support the individual and collective practice of Christian Science nurses.

In 1993 five Journal-listed Christian Science nurses came together, as the Planning Committee (PC), to plan the first International Christian Science Nursing Conference, a “community resource” for facilitating education, information and communication. It was the first time Christian Science nurses from around the world would come together for such a purpose. Its theme was “Christian Science Nursing, It’s Purpose, Practice & Promise” and was held at Principia College in August 1994.

After the Conference in 1994, the PC assumed the responsibility for the publishing of Vision Now!, a newsletter which had been previously been for Visiting Christian Science Nurses. It would now officially become a newsletter published by and for all Christian Science nurses and offer timely information and educational ideas which encourage and support the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing. It grew from four printed pages to, in 2009, an e-format version.

In 1997, the PC incorporated in Oklahoma as the “Christian Science Nursing Communication Network” and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS in order to be able to more fully fulfill its mission.

Since our inception, a total of seven International Conferences have been held, our newsletter flourished and the Board has grown from five to seven. In 2010, we changed our name to “Christian Science Nursing Network.” The joyous work continues.
