History Overview

1908

In 1908, Mrs. Eddy added the Bylaw for the Christian Science nurse to our Church Manual. Mind's infinite wisdom was certainly guiding our Leader, for since then, Christian Science nurses have been at the forefront of the battle of spiritual versus material sense testimony. It has been our joy to support the individual and collective practice of Christian Science nurses.

1993

In 1993 five Journal-listed Christian Science nurses came together, as the Planning Committee (PC), to plan the first International Christian Science Nursing Conference, a "community resource" for facilitating education, information and communication. It was the first time Christian Science nurses from around the world would come together for such a purpose. Its theme was "Christian Science Nursing, It's Purpose, Practice & Promise" and was held at Principia College in August 1994.

1994

After the Conference in 1994, the PC assumed the responsibility for the publishing of Vision Now!, a newsletter which had been previously been for Visiting Christian Science Nurses. For a time it officially become a newsletter published by and for all Christian Science nurses offering timely information and educational ideas which encouraged and supported the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing. It grew from four printed pages to, in 2009, an e-format version. Currently one or two issues are published after each biennial conference.

1997

In 1997, the PC incorporated in Oklahoma as the "Christian Science Nursing Communication Network" and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS in order to be able to more fully fulfill its mission.

2010

In 2010, we changed our name to "Christian Science Nursing Network."

2011

In 2011 the CSNN Board, in support of a discussion board created by The Mother Church Nursing Activities Department specifically for the exchange of ideas among Christian Science nurses, suspended the regular publication of Vision Now!

2013

In 2013 the 10th International Conference was held and for the first time the Board and attendees welcomed the Board of Directors of The Mother Church in person to a conference.

2015

In 2015 the 11th International Conference was held. Numerous forms were developed for online registrations.

2017

In 2017 the 12th International Conference was held. We welcomed past and present Managers of the Christian Science Nursing Activities in Boston, MA as inspirational speakers to open each day of the conference.

Since our inception, a total of twelve International Conferences have been held and the Board fluctuates from five to seven members.

The joyous work continues.
